Mabel Lillian VARNEY

1Obituary for Mabel Lillian Varney Ball. "Mabel Lillian Varney; Female; Birth: MAR 1891 Queensbury Twp, Warren, New York; Death: 1952; Spouse: Owen L. Ball; Marriage: 06 NOV 1909 Glens Falls, Warren, New York

            I will meet you in the Morning

My mother, (Mabel Ball) went to be with the Lord Jesus December 1952.  We had just been appointed to Baltimore a few months before.  In Sept. of that year, we had gone to N.Y. State to visit she and my dad.  She died at the age of 60, but was ready to meet the Lord.  Papa was so lonesome, that he almost became sick.  He worked regularly but would come home to a empty house, turn the radio on just to have some noise.

I due time he came to Baltimore to visit us.  I had just recently officiated at the funeral of one of my members.  His widow came to the parsonage to return a dish.  My dad was taken with Temperance Leach immediately.  He wanted her address to take home with him, I said, "Why Papa, I just buried her husband".  After several weeks, his letters always read, "Give me that ladies address".  So eventually with her consent, I did.

After letter writing and another visit, Papa and Temperance were married in 1954 in the Baltimore Church.  I performed the marriage.  Temperance and Papa were married 18 years, when Papa died at the age of 87.  Temperance lived in a nusing home to her 90s.

My mother and father (Owen) were married 42 years.  My dad was a Free Methodist for 64 years.  How he and my Mom loved the Lord.  They used to sing duets together.  My dad with tears in his eyes would testify to the blessings of the Lord.  They left me a Godly heritage!  I have endeavored to follow the Lord Jesus as I was taught in my early childhood.  My mother sang alto and my dad the melody.  They always encouraged me to practice on the piano.  My dad, later sang on cassettes, the hymns he loved.  I have some of them still.

Mamma and Papa, by the Grace of God, I will meet you in the Morning. Amen!

         Small Things .. by Evelyn Creekmore

         It will not be the things you almost did
         You will like to remember some day;
         The letter you almost-but did not write,
         To that someone who lives faraway;
         The flowers you picked but neglected to take
         To a lonely and old shut-in friend.
         The sincere note of thanks for a courtesy
         You thought of, but never did send;
         The cookies you really intended to bake,
         Or the kindness you meant to repay.
         You will sometines regret those many small things
         You did not quite do and did not quite say."
