John BALL Sr.

1Larry Chesebro Genealogy@RootsWeb World Connect. "1. Granted land by Lord Fairfax on a branch of Little Hunting Creek, August 9, 1695 adjoining land later belonging to George Washington.

2. Some records indicate John may have been previously married and therefore he and Winifred did not father all the recorded children. These records also claim a marriage of John and Winifred March 9, 1713/1714 that disputes Winifred being the mother of the first 2 children claimed for John and Winifred!.".

Moses BALL

1Harold E. Ball, Saddlebags to Satellites (Publication: Privately published 1990). "1. Moses, the ancestor of generations of prominent Arlingtonians, received a 91-acre grant on this land (Entrance to Northern Virginia Doctor's Hospital and South Carlin Springs Road near bus shelter) from Lord Fairfax in 1748. The property remained in the Ball family until 1818. It is thought that Ball built his home on a rise north of the existing spring about 200 yards east of this marker. George Washington, who owned an adjacent tract of land south of Four Mile Run, surveyed his tract on April 22, 1785, in company with Moses Ball.".

Moses BALL 3rd

1From John Hoskins' book:. "
Susan
From John Hoskins' book:
THE TWO GEORGE BALLS
"The George Ball of Russell Co., VA, who married Elizabeth Tunnell, was a brother to Moses Ball, Jr. of Hawkins Co TN, whose wife was Mary Ann Hardin. They were the sons of Moses Ball, Sr., and Nancy Ann Brasher of Fairfax Co. VA. This George Ball was a nephew of the George Ball of Lee Co Va whose wife was killed by Indians near Abingdon, VA and a first cousin to John Ball of 1809, and Moses Ball, b 1768 and d. 9 July 1840. John Ball (d. 1809) m Mary "Polly" Yeary. Moses Ball (b. 1768) m. Elizabeth Yeary, a sister to "Polly" Yeary, John's wife.
Aug. 6, 1835 Law Order Book 10, page 263, Russell Co VA: "It is proven to the
satisfaction of this court by the oaths of Solomon Crabtree and Robert Stinson, two respectable witnesses that John Ball, George Ball and Jessee Ball who have acknowledged a power of attorney to William Ball are three of the children and heirs at law of George Ball, Sr., deceased, who died intestate and left 12 sons and daughters which is ordered to be certified."

The George Ball of Russell Co had a son, Moses Ball, b: 23 Dec. 1788 and d:
1866, m: Elizabeth Manor of Pike Co Ky. This marriage took place in Floyd Co.
Ky in 1820. His will is found in Will Book B, page 59, Pike Co. Court Nov. Term 1866. In Deed Book H, page 23 it mentions all Moses Ball's children.
State of Ky. Co. of Pike. 12 ch.

Moses Ball of Lee Co VA, m Elizabeth Yeary and had 12 children, and his Will
is found in Lee Co VA courthouse. Judge Cridlin of Lee Co Jonesville, Va.
told me on two or three occasions that this Moses Ball was either a brother or a nephew to my John Ball 1809. There has been much confusion on the two Moses Balls. George Ball - wife Elizabeth Tunnell had 12 ch. George Ball whose wife was killed by Indians - we do not know how many ch. they had. We think John, Moses, Elizabeth, William and Martha Ball were 5 of the ch. of the Lee Co, George Ball.

We think it was William who was killed at the same time the Indians made a raid on and massacred the family of Archibald Scott. Martha married Henry Yeary. John, eldest son of George m Mary "Polly" Yeary and Moses m Elizabeth Yeary. I hope that I have clarified the two George Balls and the two Moses Balls. George Ball of Russell Co. whose wife was Elizabeth Tunnell, was often called captain.".".
