Hello from the hot and humid Northeast...I was looking at the updated history again and was very pleased to see all the additions. Congratulations on an excellent job...very well done. I am sorry to say that I didn't see my oldest sons name in the list. I thought I sent it,at least I hope I did.It was Alan Robert Moon .born Dec 3 1951. Again Donna, this is a lot of work and you have done an excellent presentation.Thank you again,I certainly would not have the patience.
I hope everyone is well there and you have had a good summer so far. Everything here is fine except for the heat and humidity...totally unbelievable..The thermometer on my garage was 110 at 10 oclock in the morning. That is very high for a mountainous region like the Adirondacks. I suppose we will be complaining about the cold and snow before long...it always happens that way..thats enough for chatter for now.
Best of luck to you all,and good health.....Bob Moon..".

I have the names from a Stanfield/Golden/Long family
Bible, which was given to a great-great-uncle of mine
(Wesley Stanfield) when he was trying to get his birth
certificate. I always knew that my
great-great-grandmother was Elizabeth Long, but I
didn't know the other names. As I mentioned before,
the reason Elizabeth doesn't appear anywhere else is
that she sort of 'slipped under the radar screen' as
far as the censuses. She appears in the 1870 Census
of Harris Co., TX as Elizabeth Golden (her 1st husband
was John Golden--married 17 Dec 1869). I'm sending
this to you as well. Elizabeth and John are directly
under Andrew and his family. 'Golden' is incorrectly
spelled (as often happens on censuses) as 'Goldon'.
I found Tory Crook's website by search engine, there's
a wealth of information there. By studying it, I
found that most of my information is right. As to the
children of Andrew listed in the census, there was no
Joseph (2 years old) listed in my Bible information,
and oddly enough, this 'Joseph' is listed as a female
in the census. It made me wonder if this was Andrew's
child? Andrew would not have had two girls called
Josephine. Also, the child doesn't seem to appear in
the 1880 Grimes Co., TX Census. This wasn't uncommon.
In the 1910 Census, a certain 2 year old is listed
with my g-g-grandfather as his 'grandson', when he was
actually a great-nephew ( I knew the man before he
died).
After John Golden's death, she married my
great-great-grandfather, S.K. (Samuel Kinley)
Stanfield on 20 Dec 1876 in Harris County, TX. I am
unclear of it all, but she must have inherited the
Golden's ranch (in Grimes County, TX), or remained
very close to the Goldens, because that's where she
and S.K. Stanfield settled until her death (S.K.
Stanfield is in the 1880 Grimes Co., TX Census). I
don't have the date of her death, but it would have to
be after 1882, when my great-grandfather (Thomas
Kinley Stanfield) was born. It is said that she died
in childbirth of a baby girl named Jesse. Anyhow,
here's the information I have on Andrew. Soon, I plan
on driving down to Shelbyville in Bedford County and
see what I can find on the Longs. The church Henry
Long helped organise is still there I believe. I live
just north of Nashville (about 13 miles) and
Shelbyville is just south. By the way, the reason
some records on the Longs say 'Rutherford Co., TN' and
some say 'Bedford Co.' is that Bedford was a part of
Rutherford until the late 1820s I believe.
Sincerely,
Harry Walston

I just found a bit of information from the Louisiana
Bureau of Land Managment proving that Henry and Andrew
S. Long were in Louisiana for a while and land owners
there. They also seem to have purchased the land on
the same day, 1 Sept 1849. It would not have been
unusual though, for Andrew to have also purchased land
in Panola County, TX by 1850 or so (I've been to
Panola County many times -- home of Tex Ritter).
Panola County is a very short distance from the
Louisiana state line. The Longs must have been
involved in a few bad business ventures or something
for them to move around so much after leaving
Tennessee, such as the unsuccessful William Long &
Company in Shelbyville, in which Henry was a partner
in the 1830s. Maybe you know more about land records
than I do, but I understood the dates, names and
acres.
Sincrerly,
Harry Walston
