I found your web page while researching a Bertha Merritt of Iowa. Although my grandparents and other ancestors were from Grundy County, Chickasaw County and other counties of Iowa, there is no relation to Rufus Merritt of Mills County. However, I have been charting different early Merritt families of the 1850s - 1890s in order to distinguish where the same names pop up. For that reason, I have some information on Rufus Merritt and his two children, Edna Bertha and George Alvis Merritt, in my database. I am sending this email to mention that Hester Caroline Hubbard in your database has been reported to have married Jeptha Gay Smith in 1899.

Sincerely,
Ron Merritt
