"From other church records we find the Noes (sometimes theyspelled their name Nue and Neau) living in Elizabethtown, NJ. Awill written by a later Peter Noe 1710, gives fascinatingdetails of the deposition of his large property holdings. Alater generation came to Chatham Township from Woodbridge, NJ.That Lewis Noe married Phoebe Mundy and they lived in the fineold Colonial house located next to the Chatham Township JuniorSchool on Southern Boulevard (now owned by Mrs. R.E. Wells).Lew Noe fought in the Revolutionary War and was present at thecapture of Cornwallis. He also spent one hard winter at ValleyForge. He and Phoebe had eight children. Phoebe died in 1824and Lewis in 1838. Both are buried in the PresbyterianChurchyard in New Providence."

"Lewis Noe (4) (Daniel 3, Jean 2, Pierre 1). The birth of Lewishas been
variously giiven as 1753, 1755, 1759, and calculations from histombstone
suggest 1763. I have no idea which is correct, but if I had todecide, I
would opt for 1753 (I think that when they calulated dates forhis tombstone,
they got it wrong by 10 years, but that is just a guess). Hedied April 5 or
15, 1838. He married Phebe Munday (also spelled Mundy) daughterof Henry
Mundy. She was born March 3, 1760 and died May 11, 1824(Littell gives 1814
in 'Genealogies of the First Settlers of Passaic Valley', but Ithink that
may be a typo. Lewis was a private in the Essex Co. Militia andalso
served in the Continental Line in the Revolution. According toa pension
application filed April 27, 1818, he was 61 years old (b.1757?), and a
resident of Chatham Township, Morris Co.. He served in the NewYourk Line
from 1776 to 1783, in Colonel Van Cortland's Regiment, in theComanys of
Captains Hallit, French , and Hamtramck. He states that he wasa 'Tanner by
occupation, but have never worked but little at that business, that I work as
a day laborer, when my health will admit, but from lameness ofmy left foot
and leg of about fours years standing and ulcers whichfrequently break out
near my groin I am in very poor condition to labor at all.' Hegoes on to
say that 'my wife, whoes name is Phebe had her left legamputated by surgeons
about 17 years hence and is helpless and sickly, and veryexpensive to me.'
He states further that 'I have eight children, six of whomprovide for
themselves and are absent from me. Two more live with me, viz;my son Lewis, aged 19 years and in good health, and my daughterEsther, aged 13 years and not in good health.' At the time ofthis application his inventory of goods included 80 acres ofland and a house about 60 years old. Another
application, dated July 7, 1823, lists Lewis as about 64 (b.1759?), and his
wife about 55. This application mentions that his wife had anamputation at
the ankle in 1802, and later another one at the knee. 'Thedeclarent states
that in the former part of his life he was sometimes in thehabit of writing
his second name thus, Nowe, and at other times thus, Noe, butmore frequently
of late Noe.'.".4The Will of Daniel Noe Dated 16 May 1777. "Naming his wife as Sarah and his Children as Daniel, John, Nathaniel, James, Lewis, Margaret Damaris, Sarah and Gertrude. Copy of Will also on file with Donna Autrey thanks to Mr. Joe Noe of New Jersey.".
