Page 21: "Mary Elizabeth Cambridge married Daniel M. Ball on Jan. 4, 1855. He was a painter and laborer born in New York State. He was killed or died while a soldier in the Civil War. She was remarried to James M. Annas on July 1, 1865, and shortly thereafter petitioned the district cour to be formally named a guardian for her three children by Ball- Sarah, William and Charles. so that she could claim a pension for them. Her securities for the guardianship were John L. and Mary Gordon, the wagonmaker and his wife in whose home she had lived as a child. There is no further record of James or Mary Elizabeth Annas in subsequent Iowa census records.".".

Comments: Your site is phenomenal. Thank you for your fine work. I am a gggrandson of Philip Ball (spelled Phillip on the tree) through his daughter Blanche. I have Philip's Bible which indicates that he was born 1848 and married Nellie, born 1860, on July 20, 1874. Only three children are listed, Blanche-born 1875, Bertie-born 1878, and Byron-born 1881. Philip died Oct. 20, 1885. I was told by my mother that after Philip's death the 3 children were placed in an orphanage and her grandmother (Blanche Ball) never saw Byron again. She apparently found Bert in her adulthood because his death on Dec. 9, 1932 is recorded. Blanche married Edward Sonnenburg on Dec 18, 1892 and they had one child, a daughter also named Blanche, born November 6, 1893. Blanche died Mar 3, 1935 in Baltimore, Md. I never expected to ever find anything out about Philip's ancestry. Thank you. Bill Burd.".
