Ball on Jan. 4, 1855.  He was a painter and laborer born in New York State.  He was killed or died while a soldier in the Civil War.  She was remarried to James M. Annas on July 1, 1865, and shortly thereafter petitioned the district cour to be formally named a guardian for her three children by Ball- Sarah, William and Charles. so that she could claim a pension for them.  Her securities for the guardianship were John L. and Mary Gordon, the wagonmaker and his wife in whose home she had lived as a child.  There is no further record of James or Mary Elizabeth Annas in subsequent Iowa census records.".".
